Join us for the Advent and Christmas Season
Advent Calendar of Events
Wednesday Evening Holden Prayer
December 3, 10, 17, 6:30 pm
We’re gathering in the Sanctuary after dinner on Wednesdays for a time of song, candlelight, poetry, and stillness in the midst of a busy season. Together we’ll sing through the Holden service, including Mary’s Magnificat, as we wait for the coming of Emmanuel, God-With-Us. All ages are invited to attend; Kids Club will not be running concurrently during these services—families are encouraged to worship together. (Dinner is from 5:30 to 6:15 pm.)
First Sunday of Advent
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 9:30 AM WORSHIP
Following worship on the First Sunday of Advent, we’re decorating the church for Christmas! We’ll have decorating tasks for all ages and abilities, advent activities and crafts, and Christmas cookies and a hot cocoa bar for all!
Second Sunday of Advent
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7, 9:30 AM WORSHIP
Make sure to attend this special worship service, informally known as Advent Music Sunday. The choir led by Dr. Bruce Gleason and the bell choirs led by Chuck Linderkamp will share music throughout the service.
Following worship, attend the December performance of The New Frontier Lutheran Radio Hour in the Lakeview Room.
Third Sunday of Advent: Children’s Christmas Program
Sunday, December 14, 9:30 am worship
The children of Diamond Lake Lutheran present a creative retelling of the birth of Jesus during worship with Mary Said Yes!, a pageant written by Pastor Andrea and newly published by Church Anew. After the program, all are invited to the Lakeview Room for cookies, cocoa, and gift wrapping for the families in the Lutheran Social Service apartments we support through the Welcome Home ministry. Be sure to invite family and friends!
Blue Christmas Worship Service
Saturday, December 20, 6 pm
Christmastime can be hard for those who are grieving, those struggling with depression, those feeling isolated or alone, and those for whom the future seems bleak. The Blue Christmas service–held on the winter solstice weekend–will make space for these feelings not usually acknowledged during this festive season. This quiet, candlelit service is designed especially for those who find the holidays challenging or need a moment of stillness amid the holiday rush. All are welcome to come and experience God’s light and hope on the longest night of the year. Children are welcome to attend.
Fourth Sunday of Advent
Sunday, December 21, 9:30 am worship
Worship with us on Christmas Eve
Candlelight Worship Service
Wednesday, December 24, 4 pm
Worship on Christmas Eve is a traditional service, ending with a candlelit singing of Silent Night. Come to be grounded in the story we know so well, and to sing your favorite Christmas hymns. This is a family-friendly service – there will be a Sermon on the Steps and battery-operated candles for kids. A staffed nursery will be available.
