The middle and high school years can be an overwhelming time for youth. Diamond Lake Lutheran Church offers a respite from the day-to-day pressures on our kids. We gather regularly to discuss issues and participate in fun activities to help kids on their faith journeys while developing an important and supportive community.
7th through 12th Grade
Wednesdays, 7:30–8 pm
Meet with Lacy Tooker-Kirkevold, Director of Children, Youth, & Family Ministries, each Wednesday from 7:30-8 pm, in the Youth Room on the lower level. Youth are invited to attend just this portion of the evening, OR come at 5:30 pm for dinner, participate in the Youth Musical rehearsal at 6 pm, then stay to help with Kids Club (6:30–7:30 pm), and end the evening with Youth Group!
Wednesday activities will not occur when Minneapolis schools are closed.
7th and 8th Grade
One Sunday a Month, 5–8 pm
Perhaps the most significant milestone for youth in their faith journey is Confirmation. While these classes typically run through 7th and 8th grade with 9th graders confirmed on Reformation Sunday (the last Sunday of October), older youth who have not yet been confirmed are also welcome to join classes in the fall.
Confirmation classes take place once a month on Sunday evenings from 5-8 pm. This extended period of time allows students and adult leaders to eat dinner together and to go deeper into the lessons and stories in each session. Please check the calendar for dates.
The annual fall retreat at Luther Park in Danbury, Wisconsin, is a weekend of relaxation and exploration for individuals, couples, families, and extended families and friends. We enjoy fellowship and home-cooked meals, play games, build campfires (and devour lots of s’mores), make crafts, and so much more. The retreat is open to all.
A fundraiser for youth to receive scholarships to attend camp, retreats, and service learning trips, the Cabaret is a talent and comedy show for members and friends of Diamond Lake. A silent auction and delicious desserts help make this a fun evening for everyone.
Every year, the Youth of Diamond Lake, from elementary-aged kids all the way through high school, come together to stage an original musical. While the performers begin learning the songs in the fall on Wednesdays from 6–6:30 pm, most of the rehearsals take place after Christmas and the performances are near the end of February or early March. We have seen kids form lasting bonds from participating in this program.
High schoolers travel to a different location in the United States each year to walk alongside and learn from people experiencing various challenges including unhousing, addiction, mental health, and other marginalizing experiences.
