Dr. Bruce Gleason
Senior Choir Director
Stemming from a career that has spanned all levels of instrumental and vocal music instruction, kindergarten through doctoral students, Dr. Bruce Gleason, our senior choirmaster, is in his seventeenth year at Diamond Lake, and in his twenty-fifth year as a professor of music at the University of St. Thomas where he teaches undergraduate courses in music history and graduate courses in music education. He holds a B.A. in music and theology from Crown College, B.S. and M.A. degrees in music education from the University of Minnesota, and a PhD in music education from the University of Iowa. Along with his academic background, he served as a euphonium player with the 298th U.S. Army Band of the Berlin Brigade from 1989 to 1991, and along with witnessing the dismantling of the Berlin Wall, he was privileged to perform for German reunification ceremonies with U.S., British, French, and Soviet army bands. As a scholar, he has published over fifty articles in music education and music history. His book, Sound the Trumpet, Beat the Drums: Horse-Mounted Bands of the U.S. Army, 1820 – 1940 was published by the University of Oklahoma Press in 2016.
